Blog no. 7: Still the Longing Remains

Loneliness and nostalgia can be very miserable. In the story The Day the Dancers Came, Fil, a Filipino immigrant who settled in the US together with another Filipino, missed the Philippines, its people and its culture. He had a longing for what he used to see and where he used to be. When some Filipino dancers came to Chicago, he wanted very much to see them, take them around, and even bring him to his place and cook dinner for them. When he came and saw the dancers, he adored them, most especially the girls. He was very proud of them and badly wanted their attention. Unfortunately, the dancers couldn't come with him for they didn't have much time. Fil became very disappointed and blamed it on his uncomely and seasoned looks. Nevertheless, he thought of a better idea, and it was to record the dancers' performances. Upon getting home, he watched the video and was fascinated with what he saw. Suddenly, he heard his Filipino friend scream, and by accident, he deleted the video. He was devastated upon realizing that he had lost what little memory he had of the land he missed and loved so much.
