Blog no. 9: Black and White

It is true that advances in technology really make people grow apart from each other. I don't actually know of a family who are in this kind of situation, but I have no doubts there are those who really are. The Internet, for one can take the time that kids and teenagers could be spending with the family, doing sports and other meaningful activities. Take also the story I read about a family and the advent of TV in their household. The kid and her father stopped playing baseball when they started watching the games on TV, instead. Today, the TV, the Internet, and the mobile phones have become compensations for and barriers to real-life bonds in, mostly in families. Through the mobile phone, friends and relatives are only a text away. While technological advancement helps us a lot in many aspects, establishing connections with people being one of these, it can also create shallow, often feeble relationships as people divert their attention to a virtual means of communication. This creates less interactive and well-built relationships and can result to a dysfunctional family.
